Born June 4, 1944 into a U.S. Navy family whose father, a naval officer, was bombed while aboard the USS Maryland, that was moored at Pearl Harbor. His father was also at Tokyo Bay when the Japanese surrendered. He grew up on both the West & East Costs depending upon where his father was stationed; spending summers with both families of Grandparents in Iowa.
He gratuated in the top ten percent of his class at Mar Vista High School in California. After one year at San Diego State, he joined the U.S. Air Force. In the USAF, he was trained as an air traffic controller where he distinguished himself numerous times over the years as "Airman of the Quarter" & "Air Traffic Controller of the Quarter". His awards also included Meritorious Letters one from the USAF and one from the Santa Maria District Attorney for saving the lives of two little girls and their father, by pulling them form a burning car. He was rapidly promoted to sergeant. After four years service to his country he received an honorable discharge. He is a Viet Nam era veteran. He is a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Legion. He appreciates deeply the plight of the Veteran. He also regrets the pitiful care & rehabilitation that is remiss or not complete for our returning Soldiers from Iraq and Afganistan. He will work diligently striving to right the wrongs of those who serve. They were whole when we sent them over there; we should be responsible for returning to as normal a life as we possibly can.
After the Air Force, he worked for the Boeing Co. starting as an apprentice tool and die maker and attaining journeyman status in only two years. He was an active member of the AFL/CIO during that time. He left Boeing to go back into air traffic control with the FAA in 1969. Over the years, he attained the status of Full Performance Level controller at Oakland Bay TRACON, which, controls, via radar, the 26 airports in the San Francisco area. He was one of the Charter members of The Professional Air Traffic Controllers' Organization(PATCO). He held numerous elective offices including but not limited to: Chairman of the National Constituation Committee; Tower/Radar and all Tower facilities', was Voting Representative for Washington, Oregon, & Idaho; and , Political Action Coordinator for the six Western States; to name a few. It was also during this period that he completed his college degree at Central Washington University a Bachelor of Arts and won two State Championships as a soccer coach. Ronald Reagan terminated him for Union participation 1981.
Subsequently, he worked as Director of Operations for TREBOR Corp. & Vice President of Marketing for Healey International among other employment. He was finally exonerated for strike activities by President Clinton and was able to go back to work as an air traffic controller. He retired from air traffic control in 2000.
He was married for 23 years and has four children: David A., William A., Daniel W., and Heather R. Cronkhite (nee Shupp). Dave and his present wife Maxine Shupp have been married for sixteen+ years and she has two daughters: Laura D. Edunn(nee Sellers) and Jowanna J. Sellers (aka Riggs). Together they have seven grandchildren. One of their grandsons, Garrett L. Riggs, an eighth grader at Mineral Wells Jr. High is helping Dave in he's Campaign. Dave's other grandchildren are too young and or live out of State to be able to help this time. Denise Sellers was a Drill Team member and Jodie Sellers was a Drill Team member and Cheerleader for Millsap High School.
Dave felt impelled to run when Bush illegally wire tapped us and then vetoed the S-Chip legislation along with vetoing other congressional bills. Vetoes that further erode away our civil liberties and programs that would aide in restoration of honesty, pride, & valor to the people of America. Dave knows, from his World travels, that Americans have gone from being hold in very high esteem outside of America to being held in contempt because of Bush, his henchmen, and their bullying policies.
For Bush and his Republicans who took us from Trillions of dollars in surpluses to Trillions of dollars in deficits' to deny the average American: Health Care, Basic & Higher Education, Secure Retirement, Clean Energy, Improved Climate Control, Fiscal Responsibility, Improved Foreign Relations, Veterans' Benefits, ect. is an abomination!
Those same Republicans recently filibustered or stopped improved legislation in favor of their rich buddies on numerous occasions. Why should a rich man living in downtown Manhattan who never picked up a shovel in their life be entitled to millions of dollors of farm subsidies? Similarly, why should a multimillion dollar corporation be able to take their entire operation, jobs and all, off shore to another country be subsidized by American taxpayer? Moreover, the owner of that company lives in luxury here in the United States not paying their fair share of taxes. When the average American has to work almost half a year just to pay their taxes and the millionaire is rid of their tax burden January 1st, something is definitely wrong with teh Republican system. Dave intends to put "We the People" back in the American vocabulary and aspirations.
